Commissioner's Community Fund - Grant Recipients November 2013
The following grants were announced in March 2014.
1. Hertswatch has been awarded £1,000 to help pay for a ‘Scam booklet’ which is a fraud prevention advice leaflet for elderly and vulnerable people across Hertfordshire.
2. Be Your Best Foundation has been awarded £1,000 towards the costs of a drug misuse and crime prevention arts competition for young people in Hertfordshire.
3. Khalsa Youth Football Academy. The Letchworth-based group has been awarded £5,000 to pay for coaching staff and equality officers as well as venue hire for combined football and anti-racism and anti-gang workshops.
4. Dacorum Council for Voluntary Service has been awarded £1,227 to train former offenders in Dacorum on work-based courses to enable them to get back into employment.
5. Some £7,500 will be paid for a Senior Citizens Academy in Welwyn Hatfield that will provide advice, support and guidance to older people in the district.
St Albans Penal Affairs Group has been awarded £4,000 to support of a penal affairs conference. The group provides a focus for criminal justice issues in St Albans diocese and is a network for Christians who share concerns on these issues.
6. Druglink has been awarded £25,000 towards its countywide alcohol diversion scheme. Druglink delivers a diversionary course to those who would be issued with a fixed penalty notice for alcohol-related offences. The money will allow equipment to be updated and additional resources.
7. The anti-knife crime group Billy’s Wish has been granted £8,000 to contribute towards a countywide education programme about the dangers of carrying knives.
8. Hertford & Ware Street Pastors have been awarded £9,000 to pay for training and other resources required throughout the year for the help they provide to people using the pubs and bars in East Herts.
9. Resolve in Welwyn Hatfield has been awarded £18,208 to fund a pilot drug and alcohol targeted outreach intervention project.

10. Surestart Children’s Centre in Watford has been granted £924 to run ‘Caring Dads’ courses which enable men to improve their fathering skills and increase their awareness of, and responsibility for, abusive and neglectful fathering behaviours and its impact on children.
11. Stevenage Citizens Advice Bureau has been granted £10,000 to offer an outreach service to offenders in Stevenage and North Herts, mainly centred around debt and finance work in order to help stop them returning to offending.
12. Kids Count has been awarded £6,000 for a countywide programme working with children from a youth offending and anti-social behaviour background.
13. The Watford Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Centre has been awarded £5,000 to help pay for countywide support for men who have been sexually abused either as a child or as an adult. The grant will help pay for training and marketing for the service.

14. Herts Women’s Centre has been awarded £10,000 for a countywide service supporting the victims of sexual and domestic abuse.
